Loud Blasts and Plumes of Smoke Witnessed in the Heart of Tehran
As per eyewitness accounts, two powerful explosions were heard in the city on Saturday. Simultaneously, columns of dense smoke were observed billowing over the centre and east of the Iranian capital.
“The nature of these blasts indicates that this is a strike involving missiles,” one news agency stated, without initially provide additional information.
Context: Escalating Strains and Recent Events
The incident takes place against a backdrop of severely escalated strains in the region. Major developments leading up to this strike include:

- Diplomatic Negotiations: Recent talks between the US and Iranian officials on Tehran's nuclear programme concluded without a deal, with indications of more talks planned.
- Public Statements: Before the strike, a senior US official had described Iran as “the world’s number one sponsor of terror” and delivered warnings regarding its missile program.
- Ultimatum: Reportedly, a deadline of 10 to 15 days had been given to Iran to settle the atomic standoff or confront severe consequences.
Iranian Response
Reacting to earlier allegations, Iranian authorities had accused the United States of spreading “falsehoods” about its defensive capabilities. They dismissed claims about weapons development and protest deaths as baseless.
